Planning the job

Separate the unit’s contents from what belongs to the property

  • A turnover can involve furniture, boxes and loose household material alongside appliances and fixtures that should remain.
  • The owner or authorized manager should confirm what may be removed before the appointment is arranged.
  • If the job also includes a garage, patio or separate storage space, name those areas individually.

Coordinate the clear-out with the turnover work

  • Contents removal is often one part of getting a unit ready for its next use.
  • A cleaner may need open floors, a repair contractor may need access to a wall, or a replacement appliance may be waiting for the old one to leave.
  • For multi-unit work, label photos and instructions by unit so a retained item in one property is not confused with an item being removed elsewhere.
  • Requested completion photos should focus on the areas the manager needs to verify.
  • Any additional cleaning, repair or installation work can then be distinguished from the agreed contents removal and broom cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

Can you meet a locksmith or property manager?

Yes. A key, a code, or a meet at the door all work, and photos close out every unit.

Left-behind furniture with life in it?

Furniture approved for removal may be offered for donation, subject to the receiving organization’s acceptance. Identify which items may be disposed of if declined and which need another decision. Any receipt the receiving organization supplies can be passed on. The owner or authorized manager must confirm what may leave the property.
