What Does Pool Removal Cost?

Pool removal starts with the pool type, utilities, water, equipment access and the intended use of the space afterward.

Construction type, water, access, utilities, fill, compaction, drainage and the desired final condition determine the method and price.

By Chris Gosik, Iron Elk Site and Property Services

A drained above-ground pool with a compact loader and trailer standing by.

Above-ground pools

Share diameter, height, material, photos and whether a deck, fence, pump or pad is included. Water management and utility disconnection must be confirmed before dismantling. Do not assume every accessory or the ground beneath it is included.

Inground pools

Identify the shell type, approximate size, access and desired future use. Full removal and any proposed partial-removal approach need a project-specific review. Do not select a method solely from a price comparison; local approvals and future building plans matter.

Fill, compaction and final condition

The quote should specify approved fill, drainage, compaction, inspections and the intended surface where relevant. Grading, topsoil, seeding and structural suitability are separate questions. A filled area is not automatically suitable for future construction.

Permits and records

Confirm local requirements for removal, utility work, water discharge and inspections before scheduling. Keep the scope, approvals and completion records. Ask the relevant authority and your property professional about future-use and disclosure requirements.

What to send for a quote

Provide wide photos, dimensions, access photos and the intended result. Request above-ground pool removal or inground pool removal, then add deck or debris work to the same request.
