What the work can look like

Before removal
Identify documents, valuables, family selections and sale items before removal begins. Completion photos can be requested when the decision-maker is not on site.
Planning the job
Give family selections a clear place in the plan
- An estate can hold everyday household contents alongside possessions with personal meaning.
- Mark the items being retained and identify any area that should remain untouched while a family decision is still pending.
- You do not need to describe the entire property as ready if only part of it has been reviewed.
- Tell Iron Elk which rooms have final instructions and which depend on a relative collecting belongings, a sale appointment or another decision.
- The person authorizing the work should also name who can respond if previously unseen papers or personal possessions are discovered while the approved areas are being cleared.
Keep removal separate from sale and transfer decisions
- A cleanout provides a way to carry and remove agreed contents.
- Decisions about selling possessions, giving them to relatives or releasing them for donation should be made by the authorized decision-maker.
- If an item is awaiting valuation or another person's review, identify it as retained rather than leaving its destination open.
- Requested photos can focus on specific rooms, cleared storage areas and items intentionally left in place.
- Agree on access and the final handoff as well, including who receives keys or checks the property afterward.

What if we're not done sorting?
